The challenge of the Word.
The simplicity of the Word.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise; Be thankful unto Him and bless His name.
Psalm 100:4
Berean Fellowship of Morgantown is a growing fellowship of believers dedicated to being “living sacrifices” as in Romans 12:1-2. Our fellowship is based on Sola Scriptura[1], thus our name after the Bereans of Acts 17:11. We are a new church, begun in the summer of 2006, and initially meeting in homes as was done in the early church of Acts. We recognize that God’s church extends past local fellowships, denominations, and geographical boundaries to include all those saved by faith in Jesus Christ. However, we feel the church is best able to minister through small local assemblies that can most effectively meet the needs of the body and be beacons of light in their communities.
Many bodies (local churches or denominations) trace their beginnings to the 18th/early 19th centuries or to the reformation. We, too, recognize that through God’s providence there have been godly men who have headed up church movements at pivotal times in history. But in this time of relative values and shifting foundations, this particular body has been raised up with a burden to return to New Testament church practices and to build exclusively on the unchanging Word of God. In our day of fragmented families and loss of children from the faith, we are also burdened for a return to the Biblical family (God’s original institution). Both New Testament practices and Biblical families have become counter-cultural in recent decades, and this shift in the culture has penetrated many churches. We seek to encourage one another toward a Biblical life that we might be preserved a glorious church without spot or wrinkle[2], enduring through subsequent generations. But we are neither exclusive nor perfect. In fact, we aspire to grow and learn as we study Scripture together and thereby mature in the Word.
In the weekly meeting of the local church, His people form a corporate body of worship that not only honors Him with reverent praise but also edifies and encourages one another through the Word. Christ’s church is such that the gates of hell shall not prevail against it,[3] and this is accomplished by all the parts of the body uniting under His headship. Berean Fellowship shares a passion for a life of faith focused on the Lord Jesus. We seek to yield ourselves completely to His will, wholly under Him, for He is the only source of hope in this life and life eternal. If you are seeking a place where your family can worship together with other families who love the Word of God, we invite you to join us!
[1] One of the tenets of the reformation was building on Scripture alone (sola scriptura). It means that the Bible alone is the infallible source for knowing God’s will.
